Today God says:
"I love you".
He promises me:
"In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because God sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him. Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us, and sent His Son to be the propitiation (atoning sacrifice) for our sins". (1 John 4:9,10)
My response to the word:
God loves me! I receive His love as I reflect on the words of J B. Phillips who wrote, "God's love is not a conditional love; it is an open-hearted, generous self-giving which God offers to men. Those who would carefully limit the operation of God's love ... have missed the point".
My prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank you for manifesting your love toward me by sending your Son, my Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ to die for me. His sacrifice for my sins has set me free. Hallelujah! What a Saviour!
Today's scriptures:
"God loved the world this way: He gave His only Son so that everyone who believes in Him will not die but will have eternal life". (John 3:16 GW) "Christ died for us while we were still sinners. This demonstrates God's love for us". (Rom. 5:8 GW) "We love God because He first loved us". (1 John 4:19 GW)
Quote for today:
The gravest question any of us face is whether we do or do not love the Lord. (A W Tozer)

On 1st January 1773, the lyrics to "Amazing Grace", which were written in late 1772, were probably used in a prayer meeting for the first time. John Newton and William Cowper attempted to present a poem or hymn for each prayer meeting.
