Today God says:
"I am your Shepherd".
He promises me:
"The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want. He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters". (Ps. 23:1,2)
My response to the word:
A shepherd is one who guides, guards, nurtures, and protects the sheep. I am happy to be a sheep who is in the care of the Good Shepherd. The Lord is my Shepherd, and He is so committed to me that He laid down his life for me. Jesus said, "I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd gives his life for the Sheep".
My prayer:
Lord, thank you for being my Shepherd. Because of your constant care in my life, I know all my need will be met.

On 13th September 1801 Eli Smith was born in Northford, Connecticut. After training he was ordained in the Congregational ministry and in 1827 was sent to Beirut. He travelled around Persia and much of the Middle East. His major work was the translation of the Bible into Arabic. When he died in Beirut in 1857 he had completed the New Testament and large sections of the Old Testament.
On 13th September 1845, William Walford's hymn, "Sweet Hour of Prayer," first appeared in print in the "New York Observer." Walford (1772-1850), a blind lay preacher, had written the poem three years earlier in the village of Coleshill, England.
