<Yesterday    Tomorrow>

Today God says:
 "Keep a watch over your mouth"

He promises me:
  "He who keeps his mouth keeps his life: but he that opens wide his lips shall have destruction". (Prov. 13:3)

My response to the word:
  With God's help I will be able to control my speech. I will keep a watch over the way I use my words this day. Someone has wisely observed, "If God had intended that we should talk more than we hear, He would have given us two mouths and only one ear". I will listen more, and speak less throughout this day.

My prayer:
  Father, thank you for the gift of speech. Help me to bridle my tongue, and set a watch before my lips.

Today's scriptures:
 "The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love to talk will have to eat their own words". (Prov. 18:21 GW) "This message is near you. It's in your mouth and in your heart". (Rom. 10:8 GW) "All of us make a lot of mistakes. If someone doesn't make any mistakes when he speaks, he would be perfect. He would be able to control everything he does". (James 3:2 GW)

Quote for today:
I would rather play with forked lightning, or take in my hand living wires with their fiery current, than speak a reckless word against any servant of Christ, or idly repeat the slanderous darts which thousands of Christian are hurling on others. (A B Sim

On this day:
On 14th August 1810, Samuel S. Wesley, grandson of Methodist hymnwriter Charles Wesley, was born in London. Himself a sacred composer, Samuel Wesley penned over 130 original hymn tunes. The best remembered of these today is Aurelia, to which is sung "The Church's One Foundation."

"Scriptures are taken from the King James Bible or those marked (GW) are from the God's Word Translation, used with permission".
