<Yesterday    Tomorrow>

Today God says:
 "Depart from evil"

He promises me:
  "Be not wise in your own eyes: fear the Lord, and depart from evil. It shall be health to your navel and marrow to your bones". (Prov. 3:7-8)

My response to the word:
  All the wisdom I possess comes from God who has become my wisdom. As I learn to fear Him (with respect and reverence) my wisdom increases. Throughout this day I will seek His wisdom and I will reverentially fear Him. This will lead me to stay far away from evil, and this will give me good health and happiness.

My prayer:
  Thank you, Lord, for the promise of health you've extended to me if I seek your wisdom, fear you, and depart from evil. With your help, I will obey you in each of these areas throughout this day.

Today's scriptures:
 "Keep away from every kind of evil". (1 Thess. 5:22 GW) "Certainly, the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil. Some people who have set their hearts on getting rich have wandered away from the Christian faith and have caused themselves a lot of grief". (1 Tim. 6:10 GW) "The Lord will rescue me from all harm and will take me safely to His heavenly kingdom" (2 Tim. 4:18 GW)

Quote for today:
Sin enough and you will soon be unconscious of sin. (Oswald Chambers)

On this day:
On 26th July 1833: the British House of Commons banned slavery, having abolished the slave trade in 1807. When William Wilberforce, who had spent most of his life crusading against slavery, heard the news, he said, "Thank God I have lived to witness [this] day." He died three days later.
