<Yesterday    Tomorrow>

Today God says:
 "A merry heart will do you good".

He promises me:
  "A merry heart does good like a medicine; but a broken spirit dries the bones". (Prov. 17:22)

My response to the word:
  I will try to maintain a cheerful and joyful disposition throughout this day because I know God's Word is true. A merry heart does me good like a medicine. I will remember that true happiness is not based on what I have in my hands, but it is something I carry in my heart. Happiness consists of a healthy mental attitude, a grateful spirit, a clear conscience, and a heart full of God's life. I purpose to hold on to each of these throughout this day.

My prayer:
  God, thank you for the joy and happiness that come from knowing you. I will foster these qualities today, knowing that keeping my heart merry will do me good like a medicine.

Today's scriptures:
 "Go, eat rich foods, drink sweet drinks, and send portions to those who cannot provide for themselves. Today is a holy day for the Lord. Don't be sad because the joy you have in the Lord is your strength". (Neh. 8:10 GW) "In addition, our Lord Jesus Christ lets us continue to brag about God. After all, it is through Christ that we now have this restored relationship with God". (Rom. 5:11 GW) "We ask Him to strengthen you by His glorious might with all the power you need to patiently endure everything with joy". (Col. 1:11 GW)

Quote for today:
If you have no joy, there's a leak in your Christianity somewhere. (Billy Sunday)

On this day:
On 30th March 1943, Helene Kafka (Sr Restituta) was executed by the Nazis in Modling, Austria aged 49 years. Born in Brno, Moravia she joined the German Hartmann Sisters working in a nursing hospital. She adopted the name Sister Restituta, and became a skilled theatre sister and anaesthetist. When Austria was annexed in the Second World War all religious activity was banned. She continued to pray with and for those in the hospital and to minister to their needs, and was arrested by the Gestapo and executed. The district hospital in Modling now has a large maternity unit and the street in which it stands was renamed "Sister Restituta Street", so her name appears on the birth certificates of all babies born there.
