<Yesterday    Tomorrow>

Today God says:
 "I love a cheerful giver".

He promises me:
  "Every man according as he purposes in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loves a cheerful giver". (2 Cor.9:7)

My response to the word:
  God has given so much to me, and I want to give as much as I can back to Him. Throughout this day, therefore, I will remember the importance of giving cheerfully, realizing that it makes me cheerful to give in the first place. I know it is more blessed to give than to receive. Two marks of the Christian life are giving and forgiving, and I will cheerfully practice both today.

My prayer:
  Dear Lord, thank you for blessing me with so much. I will remember that I am a steward over your property, and I will give as you direct me. Thank you for the privilege of giving, Father.

Today's scriptures:
 "Bring one-tenth of your income into the storehouse so that there may be food in my house. Test me in this way, says the Lord, 'See if I won't open the windows of heaven for you and flood you with blessings". (Mal. 3:10 GW) "Ask and you will receive. Search, and you will find. Knock, and the door will be opened for you". (Matt. 7:7 GW) "Give, and you will receive. A large quantity, pressed together, shaken down, and running over will be put into your pocket. The standards you use for others will be applied to you". (Luke 6:38 GW)

Quote for today:
To God there are no small offerings if they are made in the name of His Son. (A W Tozer)

On this day:
On 7th June 1811, James Simpson was born in Bathgate, Edinburgh. He trained as a doctor and specialised in midwifery. His desire to ease pain and suffering came from his Christian faith. He was first to use chloroform as an anaesthetic. He died in Edinburgh in 1870 at age 58 years. He was buried in Edinburgh but a memorial bust can be found in a niche at Westminster Abbey in London.
