<Yesterday    Tomorrow>

Today God says:
 "I have called you with a holy calling".

He promises me:
  "Who has saved us, and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace" (2 Tim. 1:9)

My response to the word:
  God has saved me and He has called me with a holy calling through His grace. "For by grace you are saved through faith; and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God; not of works, lest any man should boast". God's marvellous grace has reached me in my moment of deepest need. He has saved me and called me with a holy calling. Praise His name.

My prayer:
  Father, thank you for saving me and calling me by your grace. I will always live for you.

Today's scriptures:
 "God never changes His mind when He gives gifts or when He calls someone". (Rom. 11:29 GW) "You will know the confidence that He calls you to have and the glorious wealth that God's people will inherit". (Eph. 1:18 GW) "God saved you through faith as an act of kindness. You had nothing to do with it. Being saved is a gift of God". (Eph. 2:8 GW)

Quote for today:
Holiness, not happiness, is the chief end of man. (Oswald Chambers)

On this day:
On 3rd September 1847, James Hannington was born in Hurstpierpoint, England. After being educated in England, he rose in the Anglican Church. With five others he went to Africa as missionaries to Uganda. Ill health forced him to return to England, but three years later, at age 38, he returned going into unexplored territory. King Mwanga of Uganda took him prisoner. He and his party were beaten and killed by Mwanga's soldiers. Hannington was reported to have died singing.
